What happened to Rewatch, and what operators should use instead

Atlassian bought the AI meeting recorder in 2024 and moved it into Loom. Here is the timeline and a plan for replacing it.

What happened to Rewatch is short to tell: Atlassian announced on August 29, 2024 that it had acquired the AI meeting recorder to build it into Loom, and Rewatch said its own platform would shut down over the next 90 days. For operators, the useful question is what replaces it, and the honest answer is two things: Loom or another recorder for calls, and a monitor such as AyeWatch for the updates that never needed a call.

The timeline

Rewatch started in 2020 as a tool that recorded virtual meetings, wrote AI notes and recaps, and flagged action items. The deal with Atlassian came about ten months after Atlassian bought Loom. Terms were not disclosed.

After the deal, Atlassian migrated Rewatch content into Loom. Private videos went to a "Rewatch Import" folder in each person's library, and public videos from shared collections went to a single "Rewatch Import" space, with each collection turned into a Loom folder. One detail worth knowing: Rewatch let a video sit in several collections, while Loom allows only one folder per video, so some recordings ended up in a place their owners did not expect.

By October 2026 the rewatch.com domain did not load at all.

What Loom kept and what it did not

Loom's Meeting Recording records, summarizes and shares Zoom, Google Meet and Teams calls. Atlassian states plainly that it brings over key Rewatch features but will not have feature parity with Rewatch. Recording comes with every Loom plan, while AI recaps need Business + AI or Enterprise. If your company already pays Atlassian, this is the path with the least friction.

The decision for an operator

Before you buy a replacement, sort what Rewatch did for you into two buckets.

What Rewatch did for you Better replacement
Kept a searchable record of what was said Loom, Otter.ai, Fireflies.ai, Grain or tl;dv
Let people catch up on updates they missed AyeWatch alerts on the sources themselves
Captured customer and sales calls Fireflies.ai, with CRM links on premium tiers
Recorded all-hands and demos Loom

The second bucket is often bigger than people expect. A weekly sync where someone reads out competitor news, pricing changes or social mentions is a meeting that can turn into a set of alerts.

Why AyeWatch fits the second bucket

AyeWatch is an AI monitor for the open web. You describe a topic in plain English, add a page to watch, or follow X, Reddit, YouTube, LinkedIn, Instagram and TikTok. When something matching your rule appears, it sends an alert with a short summary and its sources, and a daily digest rounds up the day. Push alerts work on every plan across web, iOS and Android; email, Slack, Discord, webhooks and the API come with paid plans. You can begin on the Free Preview, and paid plans start at $9 a month.

It is not a meeting tool. It will not record, transcribe or store a call, and it should not be bought for that.

What to do this quarter

  1. Check that your old Rewatch recordings arrived in Loom and are in the folders your team expects.
  2. Pick one recorder for calls that must be kept on record.
  3. List the recurring meetings that exist mainly to share outside news, and move those updates into AyeWatch monitors.
  4. Review in a month whether the meeting is still needed.
